California market squid is a small squid species found along the Pacific coast, particularly abundant in California waters. Known for their quick lifecycle, they grow, reproduce, and die within a year. They make amazing bait but also make great table fare. These jigs are hand tied with 10 sets of hooks, giving you the best chance of catching squid.

Product Details:
Rockfish are one of the most abundant species along the California coast, extending into Oregon and Washington. The Bal Tackle High Low Rig is hand-tied and available in six different colors. These are not your typical mass-produced high low rigs with feathers—they’re designed to last through multiple fishing trips. While primarily intended for boat fishing, they can also be cast from shore.
Made with 80lbs mono fishing line
Squid hoochies
Shiny Tassles
Sharp 2x strong top and bottom hooks
Gear Setup:
Rod and Reel: Use a medium-heavy to heavy rod with a sensitive tip to detect subtle bites. Pair it with a saltwater spinning or conventional reel with a solid drag system.
Line: 20-50 lb braided line is ideal for sensitivity and strength. Add a mono leader for abrasion resistance
Bait Selection
Rockfish respond well to your high low rig tipped with some bait for scent
Live/Dead Bait: Squid strips, anchovies, sardines, or shrimp are excellent options.
Location and Strategy
Find Structure: Rockfish love rocky bottoms, ledges, reefs, and wrecks. Use your fish finder or charts to locate these areas.
Depth Matters: Rockfish are often found between 20-300 feet, so let your rig sink to the bottom, and reel up a few cranks to keep it just off the seabed.
Presentation: Jig the rig lightly to create movement and attract attention. Be patient and pay attention to bites—they can be subtle!
Setting the hook: When you feel a bite set the hook! You can also wait after setting the hook to get a 2nd fish on before reeling up.
